Description

Regions Hospital has a full-time opportunity for a Release of Information Specialist to join our team!

The Release of Information (ROI) Specialists triage all incoming release of information calls and/or requests. They process releases for urgent requests and also for callers and fax requestors with ‘patient here now’ situations. Based on job assignments in the department, they are required to perform various job duties that may include:

  • Opening and triaging incoming mail
  • Answering all incoming ROI telephone calls
  • Directing patients and customers to hospital website for appropriate forms
  • Providing information on where to get specific forms from government offices
  • Managing incoming and outgoing ROI faxes
  • Scanning and indexing all ROI authorizations/paperwork related to patient releases

The ROI Specialists must understand and comply with standards set forth by regulatory agencies and rules (TJC, CMS, HIPAA, etc.), protect and maintain patient privacy and confidentiality and show excellent communication and customer service skills, at times under extreme pressure. They analyze requests and authorizations to ensure compliance and have a good understanding of all request types: Workman’s comp, legal, social security disability determination, continuity of care, patient, audits and insurance verification. The specialists must prioritize and process all telephone and fax requests for immediate continuity of care quickly and accurately triage all incoming requests according to Health Information Management procedures and in adherence to state and federal guidelines. This role is expected to maintain presence during normal business hours and participate as needed in on call rotation of evenings/nights/weekends.
